Recomendations for Martial Arts in San Francisco

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for recommendations for specific schools and/or instructors to check out, in San Francisco.

Due to the fact that I live in the city and don't have a car I cannot attend classes for my chosen style (Kuk Sul Do) so I'd like to begin training in a new style.

Any information is appreciated and I will further look into any schools or instructors that are recommended.

Thanks.

I train at Sam Ahtye's Shorinkan Shorin Ryu Karate dojo (Okinawan karate) that is located at SomArts Culture and Arts Center (or something like that) by 8th and Brannan. Of course, I'm leaving California on the 29th of this month. He usually only takes new students from after Labor Day to around Thanksgiving, so if you are interested, I would check him out soon.

He teaches class on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 - 7:30. We do a mix of weapons and empty hand.

I don't know how far you are from San Leandro. One of the GOJU Greats, Gosei Yamaguchi's DOJO is there. His father was Gogen Yamaguchi the Patriarch of Japanese GOJU. Sensie Yamaguchi also teaches at San Francisso State University.

The website is http://www.gojukai.com/

You can tell him that Michael, and Brian (Mike's Son) Pralgo recommended his DOJO if you go and check it out. Be prepared for a real workout.
