There are many positions on the ground in which you can control a person. Some are better suited to restraint, others to striking and yet others to applying locks / submissions.

What do you consider the main positions are for you?

Do you have more success with certain positions?

I know a lot of side control variations, and I like them because they are kind of hard to get out of if you know the position well and there are tons of things you can work from there.

Hi 360

Would you like to take us through some of your side control variations? Maybe we can compare notes & each learn some new tricks?

i prefer being on top (as most people do but my instructor says he's more comfortable controlling a person from the bottom.) the full mount is obviously the place to be...half mount isn't bad, knee on stomach is nice to have i can set a few things up from there...when i've got a side mount i try mainly to pin the guy down and get a kimura lock, or taking a full mount. when i'm on the bottom i like open guard the best...it's got alot of sweeps and joint locks that you just can't do when your guard is closed...(and let's not forget the triangle choke) this isn't new though...anyone who grapples would have similar views i think. i hope you don't think i'm trying to sound smart or anything lol...i'm no pro, i'm far from one...just answering the question. laters...

In my very limited ju-jitsu training the one thing I learned is that every postion has pros and cons. The one postion I found I really like but never get on people is when they are face down and I am on their back. LOL....

Lots of ways to take someones back - either they give it due to strikes or you get it out of your control of the positional game. I'll post some of the latter later
