I just did a search for 'embroidery' - lots of useful stuff but couldn't find anything on where you should put it on your gi.

Any tips? I just want to have my surname embroidered on my gi somewhere but am unsure where to put it? Over the heart area? Quite fancy putting it just above the manufacturer's label on the lower front of the jacket, vertically? Any conventions on this?

Also, anything on colour? I guess I'd go for black but has anyone gone for anything else - look any good? Thanks. :)

The name embroidery is almost always placed above the label on the lapel of your gi, black for white gi and yellow for black. I've sometimes seen red for a white gi and white for a black gi.

Usually your name is put on the lapel of the gi jacket, while your dojo or organization is on the left side of the chest.

When I was in Shotokan, a close friend of mine bought me a new Meijin Gi with gold embroidery on it. It came out nice looking, but black on white or red on white would look better.

If its a black gi, then gold is best, followed by red embroidery ;)
