NeilT Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 I'm sure this has been raised before, but can't seem to find anything on it - so - have you ever had to use your martial arts training / skills to protect /defend yourself and what was the result?Did your martial art work as expected, or did it fail miserably?I'm at 5th Kyu in Shotokan Karate, and never had to call upon it, and hope I never will. glockmeister Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Used some kickboxing skills. was in a bar ( I know, bad place to be) and ran into someone I knew there who had too much to drink. This was about a week before a scheduled match so I was in pretty good conditon. Anyway, for soem reason he was itching for a fight telling me how he was a "streetfighter" and streetfighters could actually "fight", not box, blah blah blah. well, did my best to kinda ignore him, but finally he went too far with some of the things he was saying so I said "let's go outside."The result? I don't think he would ever do that again. lol.Needless to say, the big bad "streetfighter" lasted about a grand total of about 30 seconds. "You know the best thing about pain? Go To Sleep Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Used basic boxing skills in many fights, the result was very good.
BLueDevil Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Honestly I used to get into fights more before I knew MA. Now that I know, for some reason the opportunity hasnt come up other than a few chin na moves for unwanted hands on my wrists There is no teacher but the enemy.

JusticeZero Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Um... yeah, actually, i've needed my MA training to protect myself while walking across an ice-covered parking lot a couple times. The ground did -not- get a chance to hit me. There was also the incident with the person carrying the boards and turning a little too fast. "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly." - Baleia
stonecrusher69 Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 yeah,I had to use what I knew a few times but that was a long time ago. When I did not have a car and I used to walk alot at night.last something happend was late at night I was with 3 friends of mine. One of my friends through a bottle at this one guy that he knew.(long story)anyway, he was not alone.he had 2 other guys with him.My frind was knock down from a side kick to the stomack. The other guy with us ran like a baby which just left me there.I tried to help my friend but when I tried to get close to help my friend this other guy kept trying to kick me in the groin.I really did not want to fight, so I just kept blocking the kick and I would come in with a fake attach to move him back so I could help my friend.I was not able to help my friend he really got a beating, but he was fine in a few days. Not a great ending but it was real... http://www.youtube.com/user/sifumcilwrath"When the student is ready the master will appear"
