yamesu Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 On the flipside, does it not make more sense that the Sai is the end of a pitchfork than a seed planting instrument?Maybe if the prongs were at length, or at least closer than they are.Apologies for the ambiguity, I should have written "...make more sense that the Sai EVOLVED from the end of a pitchfork".Weapons consistently evolve to become "fit for purpose", and it makes sense to me that (presupposing the okinawan weapons did actually come from farm utility tools - which i am not saying is strictly correct, just playing devils advocate here) a tool would have been modified as it was used as a weapon to be made more fit for the purpose it was then intended for. If they needed shorter and wider side prongs for use as a weapon, so be it - just start to make it that way. We can see this point in more recent modern history with the evolution of guns - what they were like 50 yrs ago, and what they are like now - fit for purpose.
