where can you buy or how do you make a makiwara(punching board)?

I've seen some interesting-looking ones on eBay (I don't know anything about makiwara except that you hit one). I wanted to get one but the description said that if you punch correctly, you should hear a clapping noise. I'm no master and I don't know what the perfect punch of my style is supposed to be like so I don't know if makiwara is a good way to train my style's punch.

Just type in makiwara on google and they will lead the way.

But stay away from the split block types that can be on a wall as they just mess up your hands I speak from experience.
