Eyes open is a very importent part of this trade.

Boxers uses the spashing of water to train their eyes open during fights.

so go get a bucket and fill it up with water and just do mini chops on the water surface with both hands. Let the water spashes towards eyes why your face is close to it. Keep eyes open for as long as possible and of course rest when you get tired.

As long as the eyes are open and can see clearly, focus, you'll natrualy become more alerted. As long as you can see yourself blocking the attack in your mind, normaly you will block it.

Of course practice you're blocks whenever you can. It has to be a natural thing.

call me crazy but this is what me and some friends do we stand fairly (i mean realllllly) close to each other and punch at full speed with the intent to kill and the other person evades EXCEPT anyone can throw the punch making it more spontaneous. another solution is to just spar and get hit a couple of times your body will afther awhile say screw this im moving next time

what does one mean by "blocking drills"?

I have never done anything outside of class to improve reflexes, mainly due to the fact that I never knew any drills. But we must be doing something in class that helps since my reflexes are real quick and I used to be nothing like that. I do juggle sometimes when I'm bored though. That might help.

I like to play Hacky Sack. Every few kicks the sack will bounce in the wrong direction, and I will have to react fast to keep up. Thus, improving my reaction time. It's a lot more intense when you play alone.

Get a friend to throw ping-pong balls at you whilst you dodge and weave. The splashing water is also great. Titleboxing.com do a great video on getting faster and developing good speed, I can't remember the title, but there are two vids you need to get, one of them involved running through a rope ladder on the floor, and doing other footwork patterns. Another routine involves using three different coloured medicine balls, and your instructor claps his hands and yells (in order of colour) which balls he'd like you to touch. You stand facing away, so that the moment he claps his hands, you spin, and touch the balls as fast as you can.

Bungee cord training, practicing blocking drills and sabaki methods, all while wearing ankle and wrist weights are also excellent ideas.

Perfect Practice makes Perfect.

I just wear hand and ankle weights. Run a little bit to get tired....and, have a partner throw different combinations of kicks and punches. But, dont fight back just try to time there moves out and evade there kicks and punches.. It helps me....but, if anyone has a better way to do it. Please post.
