McNerny Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 Hey, I was just wondering if anyone on here has heard of the basenji. My avatar is a picture of one. They are a barkless dog from Africa where they were kept by the ancient Egyptians as pets and used to hunt vermin in the Congo. Today they actually have basenji races similar to the greyhound races where they chase the bunny-thingy on the mechanical arm around the track. I actually have two basenjis and I think they are really cool. They are pretty viscious fighters for their size and are bold enough to try to attack much larger dogs. In fact, some of my friends joke that if the basenjis would have been in China, a kung fu style would have been created from them. ShotokanKid Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 I have heard of them. I'm a dog nut. "What we do in life, echoes in eternity.""We must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men."
koala_style Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 they are pretty cool dogs. i friend i grew up with had one!
P.A.L Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 i saw them in discovery, in the track one basenji was compiting with some grayhound , after to run, the basenji left the other dogs chasing the bunny, a sit on the track waiting for the bunny to come along and boom jumped on it, they did it again , the basenji didn't even bother to run, just walked to the track and sit there , he just ruined the game for others, it was so funny.
ravenzoom Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 There was one in my local pet shop not long ago, very cute dog when it's a baby. Never seen one as adult thought, except in pictures. Wanted to buy it, but I have a fox terrier, so when I learned they are also fighters I decided not too.
