Tobias_Reece Posted March 17, 2002 Posted March 17, 2002 I only know one tonfa kata - Tsun Kuwa Kata Ichi I believe it was a kata designed by Matayoshi for the syllabus up to black belt "You Are Never Given A Dream Without Also Being Given The Power To Make It True. You May Have To Work For It, However"Principal Kobudo Instructor & OwnerWest Yorkshire Kobudo Academy2nd Kyu (Matayoshi Okinawan Kobudo, IOKA UK)
spinninggumby Posted March 19, 2002 Posted March 19, 2002 Wow I didn't even know that there were katas for the tonfa. My understanding was that the tonfa is a fairly modern weapon akin to the billy club or nightsticks that those security guards carry around. But then I watched Kenshin and then I realized otherwise 'Conviction is a luxury for those on the sidelines'William Parcher, 'A BEAUTIFUL MIND'
YODA Posted March 19, 2002 Posted March 19, 2002 I have a video somewhere of some Okinwan Karateka doing Tonfa Kata - from the BBC Way of the Warrior series done in 1980. Certainly looks like a traditional thing rather than modern. SaiFightsMS Posted March 20, 2002 Posted March 20, 2002 The Shiho, Kihon Ichii, Kihon Ni, and Kobu Shodan I know I think are specific to my school. Many schools have their own forms done only by them.
