jctkd Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 thinking about switching over from tkd, to hung gar kung fu, in your opinions is this a good idea, looking to see what else is out there. still going to take bjj as a second school, any comments welcome..
Sauzin Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 Depends on what you're looking for but in my opinion, yes that would be a good idea. The only two things that stand between an effective art and one that isn't are a tradition to draw knowledge from and the mind to practice it.
Infrazael Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Be prepared for ALOT of pain, especially in the arms and horse stance. . . . . . welcome to Kung Fu training.
KF Dude Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 We rely on our hands & arms a lot more than TKD. You'll have to get comfortable getting real close to your opponent. Training will focus on stance/drill work & bridge arm conditioning.
back_fist Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 If the Hung Gar school you are thinking of going to is anything like mine, you will not have the time, energy, or desire to train in any other style at the same time. Thats not a blow to bjj i'm just being realistic and traditional hung gar demands a lot from you. To be worn out is to be renewed. -Lao Tzu
BLueDevil Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 be prepared to be impressed.I think its a great move on your part There is no teacher but the enemy.
stonecrusher69 Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Hung Gar...is great style and hard to train. You have to have real patience to make it. http://www.youtube.com/user/sifumcilwrath"When the student is ready the master will appear"
BLueDevil Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 I like your Av. ^^ There is no teacher but the enemy.
Goju_boi Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 doesn't hung gar have way more punches than kicks? If it is,he's going to be really out of his comfort zone. https://www.samuraimartialsports.com for your source of Karate,Kobudo,Aikido,And Kung-Fu
KF Dude Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 Just as uncomfortable it would be for me if I were to switch to Tae Kwon Do.
