ummm well...... you shouldnt be using them for "tricks"! the basic flipping them in and out is the attacks!! in the basic stance with the sai's down the for-arm, you can easly make any blocks!! thats all you need!

Ummmm...well, if you think that's all there is to using a sai, you need a better instructor. I agree on the tricks comment though, as with all weapons, tricks are for kids (hey, that's CLEVER! :D ) and suitable for play only. :karate:

learning to spin them is in no way useful for fighting but it definately increased the flexibility of my wrists as well as cultivating indenpendence between the two sides.

O Sensei said that everyone has a defined sphere of strength and if you can get them outside that sphere then their strength will disappear. I say, EXPAND YOUR SPHERE!

This goes back to how the sai's are viewed. If you are viewing them as a weapon then perhaps by asking for "tricks" you are looking for helpful learning techniques. If that's your question is then yes there are many such techniques and in my opinion you need a qualified instructor to learn them properly. Some advice is to listen to the instructor. Always be aware of what direction the prongs are facing when you have the sais flipped in or chambered. And start slow. There are many other techniques with the sai, but when you are starting you should focus on the basics.

If you're looking for advice on how to juggle or twirl them or add more "flash" to your techniques then I am definitely not the right person for to be answering your question as these things have no relevance to the way I practice them as weapons.

The only two things that stand between an effective art and one that isn't are a tradition to draw knowledge from and the mind to practice it.

Having seen Sauzin in action, I'll verify what he is saying is true. He has very solid technique.

I Wonder if he saw Elektra and the moves she was able do to with spinning the Sai's...and such.

Is that even possible for her to move the Sai's that fast?

Never let your life end without your friends.
