mantis99 Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 i just got in to using the sais, is there any tricks that can be done with them besides flipping them in and out?
sho-dan-webby Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 ummm well...... you shouldnt be using them for "tricks"! the basic flipping them in and out is the attacks!! in the basic stance with the sai's down the for-arm, you can easly make any blocks!! thats all you need!

I agree on the tricks comment though, as with all weapons, tricks are for kids (hey, that's CLEVER! ) and suitable for play only. Menjo Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 well yes, however i thought he meant "thats all you need" by thats all he needed.... not thats all there is....?? "Time is what we want most, but what we use worst"William Penn
sdargie Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 learning to spin them is in no way useful for fighting but it definately increased the flexibility of my wrists as well as cultivating indenpendence between the two sides. O Sensei said that everyone has a defined sphere of strength and if you can get them outside that sphere then their strength will disappear. I say, EXPAND YOUR SPHERE!
Sauzin Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 This goes back to how the sai's are viewed. If you are viewing them as a weapon then perhaps by asking for "tricks" you are looking for helpful learning techniques. If that's your question is then yes there are many such techniques and in my opinion you need a qualified instructor to learn them properly. Some advice is to listen to the instructor. Always be aware of what direction the prongs are facing when you have the sais flipped in or chambered. And start slow. There are many other techniques with the sai, but when you are starting you should focus on the basics. If you're looking for advice on how to juggle or twirl them or add more "flash" to your techniques then I am definitely not the right person for to be answering your question as these things have no relevance to the way I practice them as weapons. The only two things that stand between an effective art and one that isn't are a tradition to draw knowledge from and the mind to practice it.

He has very solid technique. My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"
The_tragedy Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 I Wonder if he saw Elektra and the moves she was able do to with spinning the Sai's...and such.Is that even possible for her to move the Sai's that fast? Never let your life end without your friends.
Sphinx Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 dunno, but id say they have been sped up a bit digitally, on the computer. A friend of mine can get his to go damn fast but not that fast! Buy low, sell high, take your pills, tell your lies, fake your tan, wear a tie, go to the gym, you'll never die !!!
Shorin Ryuu Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Tricks? I get my pair of sai to fetch me the paper every morning. They'll do anything for attention. Martial Arts Blog:http://bujutsublogger.blogspot.com/
