Earning Respect.

In regards to respect, yes it must be earned. But how to earn it is the question?

My answer... politeness, honesty and confidence.

Politeness - I feel is a form of humility, being even, civil, and never losing your cool. This gains points with all ages.

Honesty - a very rare commodity today, refreshing when it is found.

Confidence - you are a leader, you have to act like one. You may not be liked, but you will gain respect. (also don't confuse arrogance with confidence)

I am sure there are other ways as well.
