UseoForce
Go tell Mr. Liddell that takedown defense is useless in a fight If it works, use it!If not, throw it out!

What is the focus of the training? etc etc.thanks. earth is the asylum of the universe where the inmates have taken over.don't ask stupid questions and you won't get stupid answers. Muaythaiboxer
Manabimasho1 do you have any experience in wrestling or are you just stateing what you think with no evidence. last time i checked wrestlers where doing very well MMA and where wining the majority of there fights. look at Chuck Liddell with out his wrestling background he would not be half the fighter he is today and what about Tito Ortiz and Randy Coutoure? you definnatly need to go to a wrestling gym and roll with some of the guys down there and mabe it will change your mind. SubGrappler
I have yet to see a High school wrestling program teach effective moves and situations that would be used in a real fight. Sure you can take it for the idea of learning I guess. But personaly I would take it so that I find myself in positions and ask myself ...now what would I do if it were a RL fight. From that you can learn to increase your MA. But personaly HS Wrestling is like Tae Bo in my views. Sure you learn to do a few neat things, and keep you in shape but it doesn't give you fighting lessons.Balance, coordination, strenght, endurance ,agility, and a strong base are a few things that would benefiit a martial artist.you dont think having excelent balance and being able to avoid takedowns and scramble back to your feet could possibly be useful in a street fight?Dont forget the ability to be able to take a dangerous striker out of his element and into your own. One starts off on all fours and the other starts off behind him. You try to maneuver your opponent onto his back and pin both shoulders for one second. It’s very interesting and I think it has very good potential for Martial Artists. And I have a question if anyone knows, Who/When/How was this form of wrestling created? It's called Greco-Roman wrestling, so I imagine it has its roots there.Wrestling = t3h 1337 d3@d1yI'm not sure I know what that means. Uechi Kid
Everything you can learn might just help in a real fight some day. Not only that, you’re in high school. It will be cool and you’ll probably have fun and get in really good shape More Practice
Adonis
Go for it but get teh most you can out of it. Ask the coach questions and really pay attention to the moves and postions and how to make them better. Really focus on learning the postions and doing them accurately and effectively. Focusing on making the better each time. The take down defense and ability to take down as well as the concepts of controling your opponents movement on the ground to pin them is very good to learn. Plus you develop more cordination and good balance. As well as the conditioning is great. Alot of wresters win not that there technique is great but there condtioning is better then there opponents so working both technique of wreslting as well as condtioning will make you that much better. You need to adapt some of the stuff for fighting how to take some one down who is striking you is one thing. Sucks to shoot in on some one and get knee'd in the face.
