Orion Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Im still a low belt in Shotokan karate but my fav so far is Heian Yondan. Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.
KarateK Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 I do shukokai karate - fabourite kata to do probably Pinan Yondan or Matsukazi. Love watching senior Dan grades perform their kata. Just hope when I get to that level I will be able to do it justice Karate Ni Sentinashi
dennykp Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 must admit i do like empi, but a close fave is jinte
lilkarate75 Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Taikiyoka Godan. First courage, second power, and then technique.
Whitefeather Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 My first favorite would be Kyoku Shichidan, closely rivaled by Choshin.David "Between genius and insanity, there lies a fine line. I like to think of it as the tip of the diving board."-An anonymous insane genius"Fight I, not as one that beateth the air"
bluejay Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 My favorites are Gekisai Dai Ni and Formation 12 (stance kata). Lizzie
Sohan Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Wanshu (with its hidden punches), Passai Sho and Dai (many "secret" aspects I am still discovering), and Gojushiho. In that order. Naihanchi forms get honorable mention because I enjoy fighting from horse stance. Lots of bunkei that are not obvious.Respectfully,Sohan "If I cannot become one of extraordinary accomplishment, I will not walk the earth." Zen Master Nakahara Nantenbo"A man who has attained mastery of an art reveals it in his every action." Samuarai maxim"Knowing others is wisdom; knowing yourself is Enlightenment." Lao-Tzu
Kieran-Lilith Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Favorite kata? Umm...that's a good question....My favorite kata that I've been through (can't remember how to do, of course) is Pinan Yodan. My favorite that I do know how to do is Naihanchi Shodan. But really, I love kata in general. He who gains a victory over other men is strong; but he who gains a victory over himself is all powerful Lao-tsu
GOM Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Fav kata to practise at home - Hanashiro Jion, Aragaki Niseishi, Yabu Gojushiho and Matsumura Passai. For competition - Heiku, Suparenpei, Annan and Chatanyara Kusanku.
