Hi, heres the deal.

me and my friend who is a 1st dan karate have a discussion on what a martial artist really is.

am i a martial artist?

i took the concept of kickboxing and studdied other martial arts alot nearly all my life and created my own rather unique style i call Pseudonaja-Fist because i seem to be very deceptive and its very effective. i know i am a combat artist, because every day i practice it and make it my own.. note this is just by my nature its in my heart. also i can beat my friend in wrestling, sparing with and without weapons. ive been taught safety in kickboxing and through my friends doing alot of karate taught me break falls and original blocks... plus im 6ft and 18stone but not flab but not 100% muscle either but i am nimble. ok but anyways lol give me your oppinion

Yes you are. Just because you aren't training in a conventional way doesn't mean you aren't a "martial artist." If someone is telling you, that you're not, buy them a dictionary.

Yes, you are a martial artist. Of course so is every white belt in my beginner taekwondo class.

Whether or not you are a martial artist is not important. A better question would be whether you are a good martial artist or an effective martial artist.

that is precisely what I was going to say.

you say you have "studied a lot about martial arts" you also state that at least some of your training came from friends? Do you have any real, formal training?
