I liked it. One of my friends (a diehard fan of the original) hated it.

I thought Depp was a bit over-the-top but, overall, I enjoyed the movie. If you like Depp, see Finding Neverland...

Depp looks like Micheal Jackson. Long live Gene Wilder, if he's still living, which I think he is.

I thought that. :)

I also thought that he gave a very good performance.

I liked the old film and I like this one two, although it's not really fair to do a straight comparison on them, especaially as the 2nd movie is a Tim Burton pic after all!

i found i felt rather hollow after seeing the new one. i just dont think it lived up to expectations and to the original (although it did stick slightly more closely to the book). i found the characters to be generally weak and obvious points of the film were just purely "crowd pleasers" (ie, oompa loompa songs).

ok, thats my film critic impression over!

I thought it was ok. I still liked the original more. I did like the new spin on Willy Wonka being a bit more sarcastic.

The new one is, from what I remember, actually closer to the book than the one with Gene Wilder. There are even times when Grampa Joe looks exactly like a Rohl Dahl sketch in the books! I liked them both for different reasons but it's not fair to compare them to each other because they are trying to achieve different things.
