Enviroman
I liked it. One of my friends (a diehard fan of the original) hated it. I thought Depp was a bit over-the-top but, overall, I enjoyed the movie. If you like Depp, see Finding Neverland...

Ninjitsu
Depp looks like Micheal Jackson. Long live Gene Wilder, if he's still living, which I think he is. aefibird
Depp looks like Micheal Jackson. I thought that. I also thought that he gave a very good performance. I liked the old film and I like this one two, although it's not really fair to do a straight comparison on them, especaially as the 2nd movie is a Tim Burton pic after all! "Was it really worth it? Nick_sam
i found i felt rather hollow after seeing the new one. i just dont think it lived up to expectations and to the original (although it did stick slightly more closely to the book). i found the characters to be generally weak and obvious points of the film were just purely "crowd pleasers" (ie, oompa loompa songs).ok, thats my film critic impression over! isshinryu5toforever
I thought it was ok. I still liked the original more. I did like the new spin on Willy Wonka being a bit more sarcastic. sdargie
The new one is, from what I remember, actually closer to the book than the one with Gene Wilder. There are even times when Grampa Joe looks exactly like a Rohl Dahl sketch in the books! I liked them both for different reasons but it's not fair to compare them to each other because they are trying to achieve different things. O Sensei said that everyone has a defined sphere of strength and if you can get them outside that sphere then their strength will disappear. I say, EXPAND YOUR SPHERE!
