The Myths & Realities of The Knife

Very good posting Yoda. I tend to agree with your realities. Most knife attacks do come from behind. Another reality is that if the attack does come from the front and you do decide to try to disarm the attacker you will most likly get cut..I learned that the hard way. I would agree that handing over the watch, or wallet is the best option, life is more valuble. In a rape situation...I really don't know what to advise unless you are a strong ground fighter. If the attacker gets you to the ground he has to keep you quiet, open the clothing and so on all with one hand...evven with this I may be very wrong.

"unless you are a strong ground fighter" --------- Maybe become a good ground fighter?

I firmly believe that every female martial artist with ANY interest in self protection should learn to be at least competent at grappling. In a rape situation an assailant is at some stage going to become VERY vulnerable to an armbar, triangle and then having his eyeballs removed!

So most of knife attacks are assinationation attempts?? Wow, I didn't know it was that easy. As long as I can stab through five of his body guards...wait a minute, what the hell am I thinking, there are better ways to assinate a political leader. With my low budgit, Monica Lowinsky will have to do.

We live in a dangerous world. I'd like to learn how to knife fight.

To assassinate means to kill in cold blood, it does not necessarily mean a high profile mark.

Hey, I didn'know that people who are threatening you with a knife are trying to kill you. I just thought they wanted to help me carved my turkey for dinner. Oh, well.

To kill a person or to assassinate someone; the end result is a person is dead. The point is "How to defend against a stabbing if its from the back or side?" Without a warning, you are on the ground, bleeding to death. But most likely, there will be people around and the culprit will be capture. And most likely, with only one chance, the stabbing won't be leathal. I just see that a killing attempt with a knife is not likely.
