Angus Posted March 13, 2002 Posted March 13, 2002 We were sparring tonight and going at it as we usually do... This bloke called Adam was sparring this other dude, Paul. As soon as we had bowed and the call to begin was heard i saw the greatest front kick in history. Adam brought his front foot out of nowhere and nailed Pauly in the chest. I just stood there while my female opponent pummeled me, i was in awe of the kick i had just seen... Had that been done in the street Adam would have never had anyone on his back ever again... It was beautiful, technical wonderful. The knee was up, the thrust from the hip came in, the leg extended beautifully and with pinpoint accuracy... I feel like writing a poem about it. Ryukyu1 Posted March 13, 2002 Posted March 13, 2002 I wonder if Pauly feels the same as you about the kick
Angus Posted March 13, 2002 Author Posted March 13, 2002 Nah, Paul likes the pain, he reckons if he gets hit then it's his fault and he'll learn from it. Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.
Joecooke007 Posted March 15, 2002 Posted March 15, 2002 yeah like in Enter the Dragon when he crescents that guy to the head and it's a one hit kill. I know what you're talking about. Boards don't hit back. -Bruce Lee
SaiFightsMS Posted March 18, 2002 Posted March 18, 2002 So does anyone else have scenes they have witnessed in class that were poetry in motion? Or better yet, have you executed a move that felt like poetry in motion?
three60roundhouse Posted March 18, 2002 Posted March 18, 2002 I saw a guy who was meeting wth my instructor about starting TKD after mving away....I think the guy was a first kyu in some form of karate (he told me but I forgot, I will ask him), and when I saw him do hus form, I don't know, it must have been becasue it was new, or maybe becasue he was so talented, but he did such an amazing job, it like tok my breath away - and I am no patterns dunce, either, folks! I have seen this kid, his name is Brandon...he's eight or nine and he's a rank below me. The kid is probably the best sparrer I have ever seen for his age, and when taking size into consideration, for his rank. While we are not yet nearing the black belt, the sparring I participate in (even as a red belt) usually consists of chopy, abrupt movements. This kid flows! He can throw like 8 kick combos and tap on every one, and he even has an accurate 360. Wow. He makes me want to train harder . 1st dan Tae Kwon DoYellow Belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu16 Years OldGirls kick butt!
spinninggumby Posted March 19, 2002 Posted March 19, 2002 A lot of elite wushu performers are amazing and to me they are like the experts and epitome of martial poetry. You would be hard-pressed to even imagine or think of further or even more outrageous dynamic combative-derived movements. Taekwondo performers are excellent with their backflips/front flips and legs and fancy kicking maneuvers, but wushu people seem to use their whole body as instruments and metaphorical pens in which to compose their physical and kinetic verse. YODA Posted March 19, 2002 Posted March 19, 2002 One of the best and most well timed kicks I have ever seen was in my back garden! Me and my guys where sparring and just as one went for a rear leg kick the other intercepted by planted a side kick right in his chest - just like Bruce Lee did to Bob Wall in Way of the Dragon It sent him, flying over my bird bath, without knocking it over, and sat him in the shrubbery YODA2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima https://www.docepares.co.ukQualified Instructor : JKD Concepts https://www.jkdc.co.ukQualified Fitness Instructor (Weights, CV, Circuit, Kinesiology)
Jack Posted March 19, 2002 Posted March 19, 2002 My first Hook Kick to head I ever scored in sparring seemed a lot like Poetry in Motion to me. It was against someone a few grades above as well. Nice lightly tapped, was lovely. JackCurrently 'off' from formal MA trainingKarateForums.com

Gumby is getting all poetic on us now, isn't he? . I've never actually seen a wushu demonstarion, but I heard there is going to be one in a while somewhere around my area, so I'll want to check it out. 1st dan Tae Kwon DoYellow Belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu16 Years OldGirls kick butt!
