Bruce Lee's philosophy is about intercepting the opponents attack with an attack of ones own, with directness. But isn't that the Wing Chun philosophy as well?

that's what he started off practicing in the first place..

JKD is more like being able to adapt in certain situations. my idea of JKD now is it's just an idea that you have to keep in mind, but its not a style or anything. Lee knew wing chun, now he's studen Dan Insonato knows escrima, kali and so forth so in his case it's not intercepting fist anymore, u know what i mean? it probably depends on ur foundation

yeah, i think it is (i dont do wing chun) but WC was bruce lee's original style, so it makes sense that he would incorporate some of the wing chun philosophy into Jeet Kuen Do

"We follow the World,

The World follows Heaven,

Heaven follows Tao,

Tao follows the way things are."

i watched Dan Insonato's videos about JKD, and I watched Lee's, and watched Dan Sullivan teaching... the three of the men do not agree on a style, but they agree on switching between styles and picking their best choice when they see fit.

JKD as "intercepting fist" doesnt really exist anymore, but what's left is Lee's speech about "water"

I do know what JKD is about. This isn't about that. What I was referring to was Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do. I was talking about Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do was special for partly being a method of Intercepting. But how can it be special when it's already the method of Wing Chun.

All I'm saying is that it looks to me like Mr. Lee took an old idea and packed it in a new pretty bag and said "This is my new idea, come and have a look".

I forget what the books called, but Bruce Lee wrote a book and he goes on about the pro's and con's of quite a few styles. It was quite interesting seeing how he praised some aspects, and utterly destroyed others of various well known martial arts and fighting systems.

The concept of intercepting your opponents strike and/or energy and dishing your own attack back simulataneously although is the center theory or concept driving JKD, is not the only aspect to it that differentiates itself from others. Because yes, if that was it then he would have taught Wing Chun not JKD.

You seem to forget that Wing Chun is a primarily hand strike oriented fighting system, with short powerful low kicks here and there. Bruce Lee never decreed any such rules, because he viewed rules such as that as nothing more than a hindrance on a fighter. He believed everyone had to find their own way when it came to martial arts, and that everyone would fight differently to some degree.

So while I agree that JKD is truly little more than an idea, it still is a concept that he alone pioneered on a large scale in world. Heck Bruce Lee openly admits that most of the JKD techniques he taught were derived from Wing Chun, Western Boxing, and Taekwondo, despite how he never saw any of them as truly a "complete" art for a person.

It's called Tao of Gung Fu. I never really read that one. I only read Tao of Jeet Kune Do
