again i'm not sure i agree with this.

please bear in mind that your particular wing chun has much closer ties to shaolin style (by way of gee shim, according to legend if i recall correctly).

if anything, traditional shaolin is typical of the flowery fist, embroided kicks that most wing chun is opposed to. of course, there are similar types of movements (becasue they use similar terminology/theory in chinese) but their base use of their respective hip structures means that at the end of the day, they are executed both differently and for different effect. the best examples i guess would have to be the massive shift of hip+stance to drive a basic "longfist" punch or how a shoilin style prefers to cross over a bridge and how a wing chun guy would cross a bridge. Come to think of it, how they treat bridges is almost opposite of each other, them being examples of short bridge/long bridge styles.

I'm probably going to sign up for wing chun as soon as I can work my schedule out and get a job.The only thing that I don't like about it is that the kicks are too low,but I guess it's for a good reason

Well they do have a good reason. You will most likely be bombarded with reasons why they think high kick's shouldn't be used, but don't be fooled. High kick's are not useless.

Just thought i'd say this.

well it depends what kind of high kick.If you do a high round kick that's fine, but if you try to do a high spinning back kick, then I would say they are useless.

I wouldn't call it useless. It can still be good. Just requires a certain situation.

well I guess you could use it if your opponent was all dizzy and unfocused.

And it would also be a good idea to be able to attack an opponent behind you, while attacking one infront of you at the same time, if you get into a fight with more than just one.

if u get into an attack with more than just one, don't let them get behind you in the first place.

High kicks, as a whole, are a bad scene in a real life confrontation. Granted, you might be able to get a chance to use one, but more often than not, you could have done something else instead that was more reliable, less likely to put you in a disadvantageous position.

I like to think of high kicks as sacrifice throws, with a higher probability of failure.

the only high kicks I feel confortable doing in real fight are the lead leg round kick, and either leg front kick. For the rear round and either side I would do them midlevel and the other kicks also.
