y2_sub
I was training with a friend today ,the weather was extremely hot , he is about 24 pounds heavier than me , after 1 hour of worm up/ bag fighting / standup fighting , I suggested that we wrestle as i thought since he is the heavier guy i would benefit from wrestling him and he agreed , every time the fight went to the ground and i tried to lock/chock/pin or submit him , he just sleeps out from the hold as we were both sweaty .. I tried over and over and over again and each time i manage to apply a lock , he just sleeps away from it in one second until I got exhausted .So what do you guys do against a sweaty opponent ??? tufrthanu
This is a time when cloth grabs can come in useful. May I ask if you were sparring with a gi or not? If not about the only thing I can suggest is before trying to get any sort of submissions or locks on that you make sure his body is immobilized so that he is unable to slip out. For instance perhaps you could get to a position where you were laying on top of him on his back so that your weight would keep him from squirming out while you put him into a rear interlocking choke? y2_sub
To answer your question we were both wearing short pants and a t-shirt. Moon might shine upon the innocent and the guilty alike
Treebranch
Study BJJ with no gi. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
tufrthanu
I don't think it matters what art he studies if the guys too sweaty and they arent wearing much its not going to help. You have to figure out tactics that dont involve holding on to bare skin. Of course most grappling arts arent meant to be used on someone who's already glistening with sweat. Long Live the Fighters! Treebranch
If you say so. There are certain holds that work well with no gi and usually people are sweaty when they train with no gi. WolverineGuy
When you're not wearing a Gi, the game becomes more about speed and efficiency than technique. Those grips you're used to having are no longer there, and a lot of the chokes you used to have with the lapels are not there at all. It forces you to increase your awareness and your strategy, since if a grip presents itself, it won't be there for long.
