well to me it doesn't matter if i have black belt or a green belt what matters is how good you are in the Martial Arts you are doing.

the belt you have (or not have)

It must say that you must have deserved the belt if you got it but are you really good enough for other fighters in lower or higher rankings?????

when you do your best it`s going to show.

In our school a belt shows that you have learned technique required for that level within OUR school. Sure you could say, "Oh yeah I've got a black belt" and anyone that passed you by would think OH MY MY GOD THIS GUY'S LETHAL! You wouldn't even know where he got the belt. There are a lot of phony and cheap Mcdojos out there and it really disheartens me. In our school you have to work for a belt! When you get it you know that you've earned it. People within the dojo give you respect at any level because you earned it. In our school we know that you will not get far if you are in it just for the belt. You have to work! :karate:

I only have a white belt so color does matter alittle. But my Sensi has been telling me I am ready to test for two months. I just want my test to be perfect. So just because a person has a certain color belt that does not mean they are only capable to master that color.

Some people may surprise you.

I must agree with everyone. It really makes me upset when I see a ten year old walking around with a black belt. In my opinion children should not recieve black belts or anything even close. If it were up to me their would be no belts like the way it was back in the Shaolin Temple. I've seen purple belts beat the tar out of Black Belts. It all depends on the individual's skill level.

I'm taking one of my students to train with my Doce Pares Eskrima instructor tomorrow - it's phase 2 of his Black Belt test.

Phase 1 was on Sunday and lasted 3 hours - he passed with flying colours

He did very well - 3 hours of technical evaluation, hard drilling - and lots of sparring. The last thing he had to do was full contact sparring - using a stick and all other available tools (kicks, punches, elbows, knees, throws, grappling etc) This was done full contact - the only protective equipment was a groin guard, fencing mask (foil type) and hockey gloves. No body armour, elbow, knee or shin protection. This is HARD sparring at it's best! Two students tested - one passed, one failed. They also had to submit a written essay & sit two written exams - all of which he passed. If he passes the final assessment tomorrow he gets his Black Belt - he will have earned it! THEN he can say belts don't matter

Wow, 3 hour + test. That is some hard-core stuff  hehehehe

It is also important to treat every day and every moment you train as if you are being tested :karate:
