ya know belts dont really mean anything to me anymore.......im a green belt in jiu jitsu right now and its not really a big deal

being a competitive kickboxer as well i have fought other kickboxers who have black belts in their base style being karate or taekwon-do most of the time

after winning come and loosing some i just dont care anymore about belts.....i just go out there and fight

before when i found out that they had a black belt in a style before i was gonna fight them it really got me a bit intimidated but now i dont care

how are your feelings about belts?

You can boo me if you want, You know I'm right!

To me belts are nothing too. If I hear someone has a black belt in such and such, I don't consider them a 'blackbelt'. To me, you wouldn't know if black belt held a black belt.

Guy I know holds a black belt, been studying for about 6.5 times as long as me. EVERYONE knows he has a black belt too. He's probably some 20kgs (40 + lbs) lighter than me too, but despite this I don't think he can fight very well 'cause he's so full of ****! A black belt is humble and has integrity! At least in my mind anyway.

In jiu jitsu though, I think a higher ranked belt will always beat a lower ranked belt with the odd case where the higher belt makes a silly mistake or puts himself in an inferior position. I always see purple belts beating blue belts and blue belts always beating white belts.

It takes sacrifice to be the best.

If a school has a good and high standard then belts become a good goal setting tool for many. Personally I think training is a better goal. I was held back on one grade years ago because I had an injury. But once I got back into training it was good being at the higher level of that Kyu grade. I liked that.

I can only say I would recommend concentrating on yourself. Others outside you have little effect on your development imho.

If I were to be held back at one level forever, it would be at the red belt level.

Know why?? Cuz red is my favorite color

P.S. I envy all you lucky *******s w/ red gi's or doboks. Black or white just doesn't do it for me :dodgy:

I believe it's not the colour of the belt which is important or the style but the person or organisation who awards it.

I agree, the colour is not important, it shows your progressing,ok, but it really lcomes down to the individual and what they are learning and developing
