That is movie fu and bears little to no resemblance to wing chun, not to mention misrepresents the history. A friend and I once sat down and took it apart in terms of the wing chun; there a few good moments but it's still movie fu.

earth is the asylum of the universe where the inmates have taken over.

so that wasn't WC done in this film?I knew there had to be some movie fu , but I didn't know to what degree.Being that I've heard that old school movies had a better portayal of martial arts because they didn't have as much to work with back then.

it was..... but with added flash. Wing chun doesn't look good on film. If you do proper wing chun, only people who know it, or some other short bridge style, will see and appreciate the movements. It doesn't really allow for a good show. It's like when I have to make up a display for someone/thing. We have to pad out a lot of things so that the audience can see something happening. It's not a lot of padding and most of it is just about having a bigger gap between the guys and them doing larger than usual movements. It's a small difference but it's that difference that makes good/bad/proper wing chun.

But that's also true for every martial art you seen in a film. You'll see a single properly done type of movement sandwiched between two minutes of flashy versions of the same.

by short bridge do you mean close quarters? And yeah I know the general audience wants to see very flashy techniques like spinning jump hook kicks and what not.

There is no one art or style that is best for self-defense. Just about any system if trained properly (ie with dynamic training with emphasis on the Threat elimination therory and enviornmental knowledge training) will be a effective means of self-defense. Remember that it is the practicioner that makes the system effective. I have personally had some exsposure to all three systems and all are very effective, but it is in the training of those systems and the fighting spirit of the practioner that makes them effective.

Krav MAga is easier to learn and it is effective always.

Wing Chun, however, is pretty good for self defense too.

Kali takes longer to use for self defense but its principles can be used for Wing Chun or JKD.

Krav Maga and KAjukenbo train only in self defense. we have different approaches but you can see clearly that both styles are "self defense arts".Both could be said to be the best or the closest to being the best at self defense.

i belive wing chug because it is a basically close quater martial art in the main and when you need to defend yourself you are usually in a close quarter situation you arnt in a big field with lots of space to manuver or dodge

The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.
