Sengra Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 From 2nd level and up we do point sparing with protective gear. (used by light contact and I miss it). From 4th level and up, we do Chi Sao sparring with just a mouth guard. On the weekends, we can do, point, light or full contact. Full contact has to be with head guards, 16oz gloves and belly pads. Sometimes we also do some grappling sparring.wow, that's tough!!!!^_^ The stronger swordsman does not always win.
fallen_milkman Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 We have been sparring every Wednesday. Sometimes points but usually timed, medium contact with gloves. Usually one person takes the middle and spars everyong for 2 minutes, then the next person goes, and the next until everyone has been in the middle. 36 styles of danger

Zaine Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Yeah, its like musashi says " to learn how to fight without fighting, is like learning how to swim on sand." Miyamoto Musashi Martial arts training is 30% classroom training, 70% solo training.https://www.instagram.com/nordic_karate/

stonecrusher69 Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 yeah, its good to define sparring because what i think is sparry maynot be what you define as sparring... http://www.youtube.com/user/sifumcilwrath"When the student is ready the master will appear"
MenteReligieuse Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 Sparring...fighting in a controled (see: safer) environement?I personally don't view chi sao as sparring though.
Taiji Mistress Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I attend an informally structured outdoor class once a week here in Kent. We do a lot of sparring and cross training as it is open to people from any MA background.I know that sparring has helped my Taiji form immensely and would recommend it to everyone. Be careful of the teacher you choose as his students will be your greatest influence.
