I think your confusing the fact that were talking about competing in the UFC not fighting some layman. In UFC your fighting TOP LEVEL competion.

casual ground work isn't going to cut it. Your going to get taken down and your ability on the ground better be good. OR you will get GnP or subbed.

Either way the guy just has to go to local tournments and use that to see where he is at and what he has to do to adjust so he can win.

So some day he can get into the UFC

have u ever fought a strong praying mantis practitioner? they mix stand up-fighting with strikes and its hard to avoid this combination while using your hands.

Also, they DO train on groundfighting-(like in this guy's case). I think the weakest part of this style is not either striking nor grappling, but kicks.

Besides, can you tell a JJJ that his style needs work? that a Japanese or Hawaiian KEnpo practitioner need groundfighting? they would say, they already have groundfighting. Even in schools with groundfighting(for self defense that I've seen) prefer the stand-up techniques and resort to groundfighting only as a last resort.

Actually, I have several friends that are mantis players - they all say that ground grappling is a weak point of theirs. They have stand up grappling from shuai chiao incorporation, but the ground work lacks.

yes, you can tell those people that their style lacks. Anyone who wouldn't listen should get over themselves. As an evolving martial artist, you should ALWAYS be open to constructive criticism.

good post Elbows and knee's. You hit the hammer right on the nail.

I think every style lacks something. Jiu-Jitsu the striking aspects it lacks compared to other arts. As well as there take down abaility. alot of High BJJ players are black belts in Judo also. As well as those doing MMA or submission wrestling that are BJJ work on wreslting alot for take downs.

I use that as one example how that lacks as well.

The stronger swordsman does not always win.
