Who here trains in this weapon? It's a very nasty weapon for a person that knows how to use it well. A practitioner can hide the weapon in a closed position, open it, make the cut and close it before anyone knows what happened. There are guys that can toss the balisong into the air and catch it in an open position. Anyone here with a good proficiency with this weapon?

Great reply, Tae. LOL. I dunno, but that was maybe just a little too much detail into your training. I had a hard time reading all of it. :karate:

You asked if anyone was proficient.

I said yes.

The training is just doing it. You're wrist have to be very flexible...there are no set rules with a Balisong...just hours of using it..and learning how to turn it in you hand. You can by a book that will show you how to open it, and close it and the such..but it still just comes down to using it.

So what kind of answer did you want?

it is like everything else in the arts. practice..practice..practice.

Anyway, I have 5 balisongs, with different length blades and such. And like you said the balisong is a good concealment weapon...but here you can be put in jail for concealing it.

Peace,

Tae

You can usually find one at a flee market or pawn shop. If you want a really high-quality one, you can order them thru Cold Steel or other magazines. Be careful.. balisong is a highly illegal weapon in the USA to carry.

I spent my entire summer learning how to use one of these things. If you want to learn how to flip then I suggest this site: http://www.balisongxtreme.com . Its fun to do and you can impress quite a few people with your skills. There are an infinite number of openings and closings. Some take 5 seconds, some take .5 seconds. If you want to buy one to use DONT BUY ONE FROM A FLEE MARKET OR PAWN SHOP. Theyll just break in a week. You gotta shell out money if you want a good one. Benchmade makes very high quality balisong that you can find for about $110.

As for how to use one in a fight, its just like any other knife.

P.S. Its my first post.
