ShotokanKid Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I want to start learning some ki excercises. What do you suggest for a newbie to ki? Fallen Hero Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 http://www.dbsilver.net/beazfighter/beazfighter.phpThats a little fanatic, but its basically what other sites say. The game of war is ended with a closed fistWars are ended with an open fist.
White Warlock Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Ugh! Please!Don't refer to links about video games and 'cartoons' for guidance on ki, or anything related to 'real' martial arts. The people who devise those games and cartoons have a 'fantasy' concept of it all. They don't practice it and are attempting to create something 'fun' for the profit-aspect of their product (whether it be a game, or DragonballZ videos).Stay grounded and learn from 'real' masters, not from kids hoping to go, "kamayameyaka" or some other such drivel.'Real' masters claiming to have captured the essense of ki development have studied for 'decades,' not months as that site infers. Geez... this is getting old. "When you are able to take the keys from my hand, you will be ready to drive." - Shaolin DMV TestIntro
ShotokanKid Posted July 18, 2005 Author Posted July 18, 2005 SO what do you suggest I do?? "What we do in life, echoes in eternity.""We must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men."
Fallen Hero Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I don't cling to it, but going from site to site with "real" masters as you put them, I have yet to find anything that hasn't said what that site does. The breathing exercises, meditation, a lot of the ki stuff. Some of it is a little crazy and I have yet to see proof of it. But I've never met any of these real masters so you could be right in saying I know nothing of what I'm talking about. (And I would never say anything like on that tv show....) The game of war is ended with a closed fistWars are ended with an open fist.
sdargie Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 My favorite part is how it said to not practice ki after a full meal. Wait half an hour or you'll get cramps in your aura I guess. O Sensei said that everyone has a defined sphere of strength and if you can get them outside that sphere then their strength will disappear. I say, EXPAND YOUR SPHERE!
Fallen Hero Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Lol, I didn't read all of it...wow. The game of war is ended with a closed fistWars are ended with an open fist.
White Warlock Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Fallen Hero, for any 'expert' information on ki, don't expect to find quick answers on the internet. No 'expert' worth his gumption is going to post some 'quick and easy' set of actions to obtain 'mastery.'SO what do you suggest I do??Well, first off... be patient. As inferred in my earlier post, it will take a very long time for you to study ki. Far longer than merely the basic physical actions required to obtain a black belt in most martial art systems.More importantly, however, is that 'ki,' just like all those cute, yet ambiguous foreign words, is hotly contested even in the upper levels of the martial arts community. It is contested as to whether it's all smoke and mirrors, basic applied physics, actual 'energy' that can be harnessed, or simply 'visualization' concepts. Because of this, you'll find differing answers to your questions, and a whole cavalry of crackpots.I would say the best thing you can do at this stage of your studies is to do 'research' on what the 'experts' say is, or is not, ki.As a starting point, you can visit this thread (http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=14711) for my opinion and the opinion of others that have visited Karateforums. And if you're actually serious about your studies, you'll read the whole friggin' thread. "When you are able to take the keys from my hand, you will be ready to drive." - Shaolin DMV TestIntro
prince604 Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Like some people mention above concentration, visualization, breathing which leads to relaxation and meditation(mu shin). But most importantly to develop ki power is the use of your mind. Don't strive for it instead let it come and let your unconsicousness take over. It's really not so complicated.People and the media exaggerate it too much like you have to do secret moves and techniques and there are so many complicated stuff to reach to this level where you can control ki. Seriously... it's not complicated just keep things simple and you'll get the idea eventually. All it takes are research, discussing it with experts, correct techniques and time. one word says it all "dedication..."
Kajukenbopr Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 you'll get cramps in your aura??? do they even know what they are speaking of??? :SIf you want to learn about chi/ki control, look for a tai chi or Chi kung master and start training. you could probable find books on ki training, but look for them at martial arts bookstores, that have respectable sources. <> Be humble, train hard, fight dirty
