My new theory

Recommended Posts

just remember economy of force doesnt mean using the least force in a single blow to end things.... just using the least necessary force overall.... generally most attacks / defenses are more effective with a setup [jab - cross]..... which would be more "efficient" in at least one light than a single cross as it is more likely to be effective..... economy is about overall efficiency and likely outcome.... :D

thats why good fighters use the front hand to confuse, stun, cut, and set up for the rear hand which is more devestating.

Not necessarily true. Leading with one side or the other is actually quite flawed in comparison to posing an equal footing, whereby both the left and right sides of your body are at equidistance from your opponent. Of course, angle of assault, appropriate transitioning between stances, and a multitude of other factors matter as well.

It needs to be noted that side-leading is more effective for 'sparring' and 'restrained competition,' as it allows for the give and take of such things. Equilateral, on the other hand, provides a far more assertive and pressure-oriented approach that is more commonly experienced in no-holds barred competitions, grappling and in 'street' confrontations.

But, this is another subject entirely. ;)

side leading limits your weapons. if you have one foot foward your more to lead off the front leg and same arm. which is quicker. also you step with the punch so that automatically puts one hand back to the rear. I see your point but it is flawwed in that since.

i actually like to lead with one side slightly infront (like a boxer) but then as soon as i feel like my opponent is used to that i switch to southpaw stance.

Then again it sounds like you're talking about competition, as there really is no, "getting used to" in live (or what many like to call, "street") fights.

I like it and its similar to my thoughts, the only one problem i had with it was where it says the rear leg/hand generates more power than the front leg/hand, my theory on that is ill generate as much power as i want to and i dont care about any laws of anything, sometimes i find science very limiting and alot more can be achieved when it is pushed aside for a second or two.
