glen garry Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 Well, good luck to you. I know what it's like to try to find the right place and one that's close enough.
johnroche Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 I am also looking to train in BJJ. I have trained for a couple of months in Korea and would love to continue. If no one can find a gym, I'm sure we can find some mats on post and all get together and train. Please write back as I'm looking to keep going without too much of a lapse. John R. Roche
CloudDragon Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 There used to be a Kung-Fu school in Rolla on Pine street, I don't remember the name, but it is in the first block on the left hand side. (Pine street is a one way street) I talked to the instructor a couple of times, he seemed pretty decent. Other than that, you are down to TKD in that area and not really anything else that I know of. A Black Belt is just a white belt that don't know when to quit!
Adonis Posted August 21, 2005 Author Posted August 21, 2005 Where were you in Korea? Yongsan? You train with Bob & Dan or with Al?
younwhagrl Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 Hi! You might be in luck! There is a Martial Arts school at Rolla UMR in the UM-Rolla Multipurpose Building Aerobics/Martial Arts Room. It is the system of Youn Wha Ryu, which is what I am in. The classes there are Mon, Tues, Thurs 8:30-9:30pm, as far as I know! Go by there and check it out or you can contact:Beau Ahrens: 573-426-3778Email: bahrens@umr.edu Albert Kunz: 573-426-3235Email: ark5x8@umr.eduGOOD LUCK! Let us know how it goes! •JUST TRAIN•Student of the Han Method"Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's allready tomorrow in Australia" Charles Schultzhttps://www.YounWha.com
johnroche Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 Karate 25,I trained with all three, BOB, DAN, and AL. DAN started bringing more of a stand up game to the club (judo) and he has also started getting seminars and stuff together. It was really starting to get good. There were about 7 regulars and I went when possible. Having numerous purple belts and a blue belt around really helped everyone.I'll try to see about the UMR but as you can imagine, 30 minutes away is hard to work with my job. Like I said before, if there are enough people around here, I'm sure we all could get together and roll. If I get a number of people saying yes, I'll talk to some gyms and see if they'll let us roll a couple of nights a week. John R. Roche
Adonis Posted August 21, 2005 Author Posted August 21, 2005 I already go to swift Gym and work out with a blue belt friend of mine. THere is a black belt BJJ guy in Saint Louis but thats to far for me to want to drive. There is a MMA place right outisde of the front gate. But i wasn't impressed with it.
johnroche Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 I went to that place to roll one night and check it out. It was more wrestling but for not having done anything in a while, it was okay but not what the outside window makes it seem like John R. Roche
