Anbu Alex Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 i honestly think taiji can be an effective fighting system ive sparred with a guy who uses it. And before looking for the so called ultimate self defense martial art you should remeber that its not the art that makes you a good fighter but if you can actually apply it. if you go into a fight thinking you have the ultimate art youll lose and never progress in the martial artsalso i read an article that in fact 30% of streets fight go to the ground cause most end with the first punch i know in New York thats true cause when you fight one person here you are actually fighting 5 and its hard to fight 5 people on the ground esspecially when you have weapons, dont get mw wrong think ground fighting is important be prepared for anything White belt for life"Destroy the enemies power but leave his life"
kiba no chi Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 none of my streetfights ever end up on the ground.... How many blosom's are on that tree?It is impossible to count,The number's continuoulsy change.
taiji fajin Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Taiji can be a great martial art (along with many other benefits) you just have to approach it with the right mindset, and that mindset is not trying to figure out how you can use it to fight. As for the x% go to the ground, I dunno. If you watch real fights, 1 on 1, normally within the first punch or two it's over. The human body can't handle nearly the damage they make it seem like it can in movies. One or two head shots and lights out. Fetch Daddy's blue fright wig! I must be handsome when I unleash my rage.
Anakin_Skywalker Posted July 20, 2005 Author Posted July 20, 2005 Does Tai chi cover any ground fighting? To win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the highest skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the highest skill.
Kaminari Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 From what I know, it does not cover ground fighting.
ovine king Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 tai chi has a lot of joint locks, arm controls, take downs involving joint manipulation, taking of balance, tripping, sweeping and throwing of sorts; i.e chin-na.while it had methods of getting you on the floor, it doesn't teach actual ground fighting. earth is the asylum of the universe where the inmates have taken over.don't ask stupid questions and you won't get stupid answers.
Traditional-Fist Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 My knowledge of Tai chi is limited but from what little I know, I would guess that once a competent Tai Chi exponent puts one on the ground chances are that one is too hurt to ground fight. Use your time on an art that is worthwhile and not on a dozen irrelevant "ways".
y2_sub Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 I would go with Eagle Claw since i don't believe in tai chi .I have watched a tape yesterday showing tai chi vs. white crane kung fu , the tai chi guy was slaughtered , it was a descent fight as a hole and didn’t show the real meaning of kung fu Moon might shine upon the innocent and the guilty alike
Anakin_Skywalker Posted July 22, 2005 Author Posted July 22, 2005 where did you find this? is it on the internet? To win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the highest skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the highest skill.
fallen_milkman Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 You shouldn't base all your knowledge of a style on one tape you saw. Tai Chi Chuan is an art that deserves respect just like all other styles. 36 styles of danger
