TKDguy Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Hi, im really new to chinese martial arts and I would really like to learn Wing Tsun and I googled it and well, I want to hear from some people who actually know it or know of it, so What is Wing Tsun? is it a mix of grappling with striking. Also, could you guys have a video clip of wing tsun. Thanks for your time, Andrew "Who Dares, Wins"
elbows_and_knees Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 basically, it's the wing chun system as taught by emin bozteppe. As far as I know, none ot the WC systems do any real grappling, other than what some of them refer to as "anti grappling". I have a friend who has spent several years in WT, and he doesn't grapple at all.
stonecrusher69 Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Wing Tsun is wing chun it's Lueng Ting copy right so only he can use it.Wing Chun has some grappling in it,but it 's mostly a striking system. http://www.youtube.com/user/sifumcilwrath"When the student is ready the master will appear"
Thaegen Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Emin bozteppe was a student of Grandmaster Kernspecht, who is the head of Europe. Emin bozteppe left the WT organisation to make his own system EMBAS (or something like that), which is basically a mix of Escrima and WT.WT is close range striking system, it's not a perfect system. For street self defence is very effective, for competing fighting it has to be tweaked, cause there are weaknesses in the system, but in which MA isn't.WT is the organisation of GGM Leung Ting. There are differences between WC/WT/VT etc. I don't know what is the better. But like any other MA if you don't try to spar full contact you will never get good in WT. Even if many people say you can't spar, cause the techniques are to dangerous. It's not true, you can't be a good fighter if you don't fight. Forms and drills are important. But After that you need to fight.
stonecrusher69 Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 I Idea that if you don't sparr you can't fight I don't believe to be true. When I started out in WC I had only a few yrs trainng and I did very little sparring at that time and a few times I got into street fights and I did very well.I was able to walk away unhurt. So Sparring is good but it does not in and of its self teach you how to fight.Sparring is only the feed back from your traing. Sparring is an important part of the training, but even sparring is not fighting. When you face an oppent when you sparr is different if someone in the street wants to mug you.Sparring is a game not reality. http://www.youtube.com/user/sifumcilwrath"When the student is ready the master will appear"
Thaegen Posted July 17, 2005 Posted July 17, 2005 I don't agree, Once a month we spar full contact. My nephew who does also WT and MT and another friend who only does MT. What do we use: Headgear (with faceguard) UFC gloves, groin/elbow and shin protection. We do 2x2minutes. I only try to use WT my friend who does MT ofcourse uses his MT. And believe me, I've been in some streetfights and this comes close. It's savage, it's barbaric. When we fight like this, I use everything what I can and have in me. This is why I train. Begin august, we gonna do it again and this time we gonna record it, I will try to put some footage up. So you can deceide yourself if it comes close or not.
Goju_boi Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 wing chun is great.but it's very different than other chinese arts ,because it's more linnear as opposed to circular,it's very simple and time efficient,it doesnt have animal forms,it doesnt have a lot of weapons. https://www.samuraimartialsports.com for your source of Karate,Kobudo,Aikido,And Kung-Fu
MenteReligieuse Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Other chinese styles are very linear, like Hinsg Yi. Other styles dont possess any animal forms too, like Choy Li Fut (sp?). About not having many weapons, well there are the butterfly swords and the 8ft staff, as far as I know Tai Chi doesn't have many more weapons than that (sword/spear), nor does Hsing Yi (spear) or Natural Boxing(?), Hung Gar (tiger fork/stick), etc. But I'm sure someone will gladly correct me on that.About the subject, Wing Chun is a close fighting range martial art based on economy of motion and the body's centerline. Developping your sensitivity with different chi sao exercises (sticky hands), a proficient exponent can nullify and "predict" the movements of the opponent while attacking at the same time of keeping a strong defense. The kicks are not as developped as the hand work but they are mostly used against knees/lower leg and rarely ever go higher than the waist.
Goju_boi Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 hey choy lee fut does have animal forms, and I'll just take your word fro the other styles. https://www.samuraimartialsports.com for your source of Karate,Kobudo,Aikido,And Kung-Fu
Kajukenbopr Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Kung fu for self defense. it emphasises on low kicks and a lot of hand strikes and simple blocks entwined, they train for quick reaction, speed strikes, finger strikes are common. As a Kung Fu style, it has everything from kicks, to punching, grappling and a bit of groundfight, though they try to avoid getting close to grapple if they can strike instead. <> Be humble, train hard, fight dirty
