aefibird
Just because he 'only' has 2nd Dan and 1st Gup ranks doesn't mean that he isn't any good. Some people simply don't like testing (I know, I'm one of those people!)Go and watch a couple of classes and try a few before you make your mind up. Personally, I'd rather train with a 1st Dan who had good ability and correct martial spirit than someone who was 8th Dan but was simply in it for the money.Good luck! "Was it really worth it? tufrthanu
Well I think somewhere in there there is a medium. This guy traditionally wouldn't even be considered qualified to teach hapkido on his own at 1st gup. I'm not much for low dans opening their schools anyway as it shows lack of respect for their art and their instructor and makes it appear as though they just want the money. I have taken hapkido where the main instructors were first dans however they were both still learning from their head instructor who taught classes occassionally...so it wasn't like they were totally doing it on their own. But like I said originally thats why you should bring someone that knows whats going on with you. Long Live the Fighters!
Adonis
it all depends. I dont think its lack of respect for there art. I had an instruction in one of the styles I taught in shaolin Kempo who was a 1st dan he moved to arizona where at the time there weren't really any from his system. He opend a school almost 10 years ago and is doing pretty good now. He's forth dan but from other instructors. but even at 1st and 2nd dan I seen him hang with several diffrent instructors who were 5th 4th and 3rd dan's in diffrent arts. So it all depends on the person.
tufrthanu
How did he even promote people to 1st dan? Have someone else come in and do it? Long Live the Fighters!
viskous
i dont know it says he's a certified examiner but i dont know if that counts for dans........and i do think you can do a free week, but i havent found any other hapkido schools in the area so this looks like it for right now
tufrthanu
Actually that last comment was directed at Karate25 viskuous. If his federation says hes certified to promote for his org then thats all on the up and up. But like you said viskuous it might be a good idea to take your dad with you when you go.
