fallen_milkman Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Most of the staffs my friend and I use are broken brooms from work. Easiest way to make one. 36 styles of danger
kiba no chi Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 i had a bokken that i ordered before, it broke in a spar though so recently i made my own out of a big shovel, lol but ive had success with other things especialy a fiberglass axe handle >.> none of them have been curved so far but i guess they work all the same, i dunno, whatever works i guess and for a bo staff i use a big stick of 1/4 inch thick pvc pipe it works pretty good actualy, you get flexibility but its kinda fragile if you hit anything with it, works for practicing for competitions though ^_^ How many blosom's are on that tree?It is impossible to count,The number's continuoulsy change.
ShotokanKid Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 I use a broken shovel handle as a club. I just cut it and sanded it smooth. If you really want to make a jo, you can probably get rounded sticks at Home Depot or something like that. kiba no chi Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 yeah, ive tried getting a bo staff there but the dowels are too short, they only go up to about my groin level How many blosom's are on that tree?It is impossible to count,The number's continuoulsy change.
ovine king Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 I've always found them too light and not strong enough. i recently redecorate my house and had replaced all curtain tracks with dowel rods to make things easier. Just for fun, me and my cousin thought we would do a little weapons sparring in the very secluded corner where my house is. We had to go back to the DIY store to get two fresh dowels. The other problem with using a light staff is that you miss out on one of the important aspects of handling a heavy long weapon and that is the feel of it in your hand. The point of the weapons is that they are heavy and that it isn't that easy to wield them. The weight is an important part of their use. earth is the asylum of the universe where the inmates have taken over.don't ask stupid questions and you won't get stupid answers.
ShotokanKid Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 I love your avatar ovine king! "What we do in life, echoes in eternity.""We must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men."
kitsune_no_tama Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 i had a rake that had the head broken off of it, and i sanded down the broken edge. its fine as a jo staff now. "Karate is an art. It must be regarded as such with its entirety of philosophical thought and development of the mind in harmony with the body. If it isn't thought of this way it is valueless. It is like eating only the bitter skin of the apple while leaving the sweet inner meat untasted. It is this crucial premise that is being overlooked today, and if the tide is not turned, I must predict the demise of the art. "-Isao Obata
