RW Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 While sparring, this girl kicked me in the nuts (no cup).It was just a light tap, but it still hurt. I remembered "keep moving, jump around" and... yes, it helped a lot. Nobody else noticed she got me there, and I sucessfully made it look like I didn't even feel it.Next time I spar with her, the next week she does it... again. I do not know if she was just that sloppy or it was on purpose, I mean, two times in a row! This time I made a funny experiment "don't bounce around, see if you feel it more this time". I you're curious, not bouncing around did made a difference, but I still acted it out.I didn't spar with her until... 1 month later we spar. No nut kicks ( ). Then the teacher comes close and he begins pressuring her like "keep kicking! fast! don't give him space! kick kick kick!" (he was an annoying little dude who didn't like me, I left karate because of him!). She got pressured and... hit me again (just a light tap once again, nothing too bad). Instinctively I kick back in annoyance and... she blocks the kick, SLIPS AND FALLS ON HER BUTT. I didn't even kick her that hard. The teacher goes like " " and weasels to the other side of the class.
twistkick kid Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 this thread is too good to leave untouched.sorry about resurrecting this, but after the past 4 weeks, I have a few more funny stories. We have a black belts only class on Thursday morning and we've been working on a series of different joint locks and pressure points. keep in mind that I am hyperflexible in the wrists, elbows and one of my shoulders. I had to pick a partner to work with... I happened to pick the other person like me as my partner. How does that happen needless to say, we both spent lots of time laughing another week I was working with a third degree who is a chiropractor and acupuncturist...she was constantly muttering things about L-this and thatI was working on my forms and tried to put my fist through the wall, almost broke a mirror, and put a dent in the wall with my staff all in one night a few years back... only me Shaolin Kempo, 1st Dan (earned 3 July 2018 in China)ITF Tae Kwon Do, 2nd Dan (earned 6 June 2009 in San Diego, CA)Almost 20 years of martial arts training in total
Blade96 Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 i never had one but one of my biggest fears is that one day when doing ushiro geri i'll spin, kick backwards, miss the mat completely and hit the floor in front of everyone.Hasnt happened but consequently i always wind up kicking too close to the wall because of it. yikes. Some people regard discipline as a chore. For me it is a kind of order that sets me free to fly.You don't have to blow out someone else's candle in order to let your own flame shine.
twistkick kid Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 we were working on weapons disarms this morning in black belt class. the gun and stick disarms went well, but the knife disarms turned into feather duster disarms. there weren't enough practise knives to go around, so my partner and I ended up having to use a mini feather duster. we were trying to take the threat seriously, but most of the time I was laughing- until we started calling the duster "duster of death!"the halfway funny part was that I had a multitool in my gear bag that we could have gotten away with using... had I remembered that it was in there before the class ended Shaolin Kempo, 1st Dan (earned 3 July 2018 in China)ITF Tae Kwon Do, 2nd Dan (earned 6 June 2009 in San Diego, CA)Almost 20 years of martial arts training in total
bushido_man96 Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Improvisation is a great for practice, as at times it produces the only tools we have for practice. Me and my brother have practiced knife defense with rulers. When I lived back home with my parents, I hung my heavy bag from my dad's cherry picker in the shop. Its the mother of neccissity. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
DWx Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Goofed up in class this evening We were having a bit of fun doing jump kicks against a target, instructor demonstrates two-directional kick hitting targets perfectly. Then my turn. jumped up did the kick... then slid and fell flat on my back in front of the whole class! "Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it." ~ Confucius
Akikazeninja Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 We were doing front hand springs in class and I had almost been landing them so I told my sensei to watch I did the flip landed but sprained my ankle......seriously ninja like.....not! The path leading to anger and conflict is wide and easy to travel the path leading to self control and discipline is narrow and difficult
mindsedgeblade Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Goofed up in class this evening We were having a bit of fun doing jump kicks against a target, instructor demonstrates two-directional kick hitting targets perfectly. Then my turn. jumped up did the kick... then slid and fell flat on my back in front of the whole class! I hate when that happens It's even worse when you throw a spinning kick and slide in a pool of sweat and the next sparring group over trips over you. -Not me BTW- I was the one tripping over. That certainly teaches you to be aware of your surroundings! The best a man can hope foris, over the course of his lifetime,to change for the better.
