ivette_green Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 I was talking to a friend who trains TKD and their class was getting visited by a 9th degree black belt. He was in the Vietnam war. Also, he was a cop in asia and at one point got an ice pick through his leg. Does anybody know who this guy is and if he's really any good? "Don't tell me what I can't do."
Belasko Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 without more information can't really help you. There are a few 9th dans out there. I have met 2 myself but both were from korea and over 80 years old. Truly impressive for their age though. Getting a blackbelt just says you have learned the basics and are ready to actually study the form as an art.
Zeke Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 That Is Impressive. We have went through the archives in korea and found out that there is only like 50 true 9th dans alive. The archives in korea was searched through by one of my instructors friends I have been at it for 9 years kicking and punching my way up the ranks now im a blackbelt at the age of 13. Come get me. LOL
Sam Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 yeah it could be a couple of them..... bity more info would be cool
tufrthanu Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Of course those are just the Korean approved 9th dans. There are alot of non korean approved taekwondo people out there. Long Live the Fighters!
frightmaster Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 I thought that within the WTF you need to go to Korea and be tested at the Kukkiwon. This would then certify you around the world. February 24, 2007 I received my Black Belt in WTF TKD.
tufrthanu Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 My point is there is taekwondo outside of the wtf and kukkiwon. Long Live the Fighters!
Sam Posted July 6, 2005 Posted July 6, 2005 yes of course [iTF, ATA, etc. etc. etc.] WTF is the younger of the two main styles [WTF , ITF] anyways.
McNerny Posted July 7, 2005 Posted July 7, 2005 Hey everyone, I know Hee-ll Cho is a high-ranking figure in Tae Kwon Do. I believe he is 9th Degree, but I could be wrong. I read an article in Black Belt Magazine about him a while back. A good technique is beautiful but a beautiful technique is not always good. -Hirokazu Kanazawa
