Menjo
Just a quick question, do people in jiu-jitsu train endurance and pain? How do they like to get in close without getting a leg to the head? SubGrappler
Endurance is the most important thing in Jiu Jitsu- its a great equalizer, so anyone who's serious about training will go to some length to improve their gas.As far as how do BJJ fighters close the distance without getting hit, its not very difficult. For one, all you really have to do is keep your hands up to protect yourself when your opponent tries to hit you. Its often best if you can have it so your opponent is chasing you (i.e. hes stepping forwards rather than you stepping forward towards him). I like to wait until they throw a punch with their power/rear hand, and then I simply rush into the clinch with my head on the side of their lead hand- it works quite well. Menjo
Do submission fighters ever try to grap your kick?(i will be fighting a grappler for a small tournament soon so i need all the advice i can get.) TJS
yea If you leave the kick out there it will get grabed..so be prepared for that. blocking and shooting immediently after a kick also isint uncommon.
Treebranch
I think endurance is important in groundfighting period. It takes alot more energy to move on the ground that's why BJJ people try to keep you there and make you struggle to get you tired out. It's a good strategy if you are competing. Adonis
good luck in the tournment. Keep your distance and use angles don't do straight on attacks. I watched a good old pridefc video of dan henderson working his game plan on renzo gracie alot of good ideas there to learn from. He didn't play in renzo's guard he stood up and escapped and played a good stand up game and renzo tried to shoot in on him he had a good sprawl and and upper cut that knocked renzo out. good stragey's dan displayed. Menjo
Thanks for the tips, i won and sure enough i tried to kick him and left it out to long and he grabed it and tried to pin me so instead of furiously trying to escape i took the advice on how they try to wear you down and just started elbowing and later on attacked from angles. Adonis
congradulations! Nice way to test out your moves and anlayze where your at and what your strengths and weakness are. so what you learn from fighting the guy?
Menjo
Well I made sure to keep him at bay instead of trying to get close and take him from there. Also I waited for him to get tired of me kicking him and sneaking in punches and when he charged I kneed the jaw and elbowed the side of the head and went crazy punching. First time beating a grappler actually. I think ill watch some of the BJJ people across the street practice to help. Iam going to work more powerful hits so when I fight more scenarios like this, it might be easier to get the opponent down. Adonis
if you want you can try looking around for wrestling clubs also which price probably will be cheap or have wrestler friends in class or if you done it. will help with take down defense. such as learning to sprawl or learning to fight in the clinch which you had some training in when you did mauy thai right? wrestling helps you keep your base in your feet when they try to clinch and take you down were you can adjust and pumel in for better hand postions. Or set up for dirty boxing team quest is good at the dirty boxing moves. thats a mma team. On pridefc (pride figthing champion ships is a japense based promotion like the ufc but I Think with a bigger following then UFC) a guy named dan henderson faught renzo gracie. in the fight renzo got him to the ground as far as pulling guard dan hit him a few times in the guard then quickly stood up and backed out so he wouldn't play renzo's game. renzo tried to shoot in on him or tackle dan and dan sprawled his weiht on top of him. he did it a couple times and then back off and threw punches at renzo. renzo tried to clinch up on dan again and dan sprawled on top of him throwing an upper cut at the same time. which already knocked him out. but shows his fight stratgey as how to deal with a better grappler.
