Why Peacocks?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know why most rank certificates (karate) have peacocks surrounding the border of the certificate.

to better describe what I'm referring to:

there are 2 peacocks facing each other at the top of the certificate, their tail feathers are down and they form the border along the sides of the certifiate, (somtimes joined by a vine of some type along the bottom). I've seen many verisons but they are always peacocks. (not including all the dragons and tigers that many schools like to use)

If you do a google image search for "karate certificate" there are several examples[/b]

We have tigers and dragons. No peacocks. I tried looking around for you, but couldn't find anything. Sorry, man.

We have a Shuri kata called Go Pei Sho (Advanced Tearing Peacock). It's an upper level kata, so I don't know it yet. I think the Peacock is one of the Chinese animals forms.

On my karate rank certificates we have Kanji, a tiger and the logo for my association.

Sorry, I don't know why some rank certificates would use peacocks!

Hmm....no peacocks for us. We have the Japanese gate thing, a bit of kanji, and our school symbol, but no peacocks.
