kivikala Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 Similar to many previous replies, I would plan on backing off, my motivation is not to fight anyone if at all possible. Defenses range from emotional and psychological attempts to control the opponent to more physical means of blocking, trapping and dodging. I would prefer to wear down my opponent by having them constantly pursue me and have them expend maximum energy. Once they are tired, I can just walk away. If backed to a wall by attacks that are superior to my defenses I would have little alternative but to turn the tables.
24fightingchickens Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Guys what would you do if a woman attacked you in the street.would you fight back or would you just block and avoid fighting. What does that mean, "attacked you in the street"? You mean challenged me to a duel? Jumped out from behind the ice machine at Circle K and started punching me in the face? Pulled a gun? A knife? Had a gang behind her and started trying to humiliate me knowing that they would rip my arms out if I tried to do anything to her? I can imagine a 100 different scenarios all requiring different responses based on where I am, whether or not I can get away, and what my chances of winning are.My knee-jerk reaction to this question was "There is a woman who can catch me to attack me?" I'm trying to imagine running around a parking lot having trouble getting away from a woman large enough to harm me if she hit me. She'd have to weigh in at 160 pounds or so, I guess, so I'd probably be able to outrun her in quick bursts and lure her away from my Jeep, jump in, and drive off while she sat down and considered taking up an exercise program. 24FightingChickenshttp://www.24fightingchickens.com

bald1rides Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 You should not minimize in your mind the threat that a woman might represent, particularly if she is armed. To those who think they can parry a knife attack all day, try the following simple exercise:-Get a training partner to hold a whiteboard marker (water soluable) as they would a knife.- have training partner who you are not familiar with (that is key) to make all knifey-like with the pen.- count the number of marks on yourself afterwardsIt's important to use a training partner you're not familiar with as you do get used to the tells of a regular sparring partner. After a while they (and you) start performing predictably. I was lucky enough to get to try out some escrima a few times and that was an eye opening exercise. A little girl "sliced" me up good. You're probably "bleeding" after this exercise. You have major arteries in your arms (inside) and your legs. All she's got to do is slice one of them and you are dead very quickly. Heck, even nasty slashes on the forearms can make your hands useless if they get the right tendons, and I make my living with my hands. Those that think that women are the weaker of the sexes needs to watch a woman give birth. Then think how much it would hurt to poop a cantaloupe. Who's the weak one now? Dang near made me faint just watching it on TV. I mean, ewwwww.Personally, I'm happy most women are the kinder of the sexes. I mean, can you imagine if a person who can stand having their pelvis stretched that far out and smile at the frikkin' baby afterwards took a mean dislike to you? Probably no stopping her. Steve_K Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 If it was just a "mad woman" I would just protect myself and lock her up and convince her to calm down. Now if she had a truly malicious intent and/or a weapon, depending on her ferocity and ability, I would start with less visibly damaging blows to the body to try to knock the wind out of her and get her under control, but if she was a real threat and endangering my life, I would treat her like a man, but immediately file a police report stating that she attacked me and I did all that was necessary to protect myself.
White Warlock Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I agree with bald1rides' post. Many of the posts here automatically assume that a woman cannot pose a threat, and thus present father-figure solutions to the issue. This can actually exacerbate the issue, cause it to escalate. The initial question, as 24fightingchickens noted, does not provide sufficient information. As all 'what if' situations, specifics are needed. Just because it is a woman doesn't mean we suddenly dismiss the extenuating circumstances, the context, platform, motive, and/or weapons that might be associated with the attack.First and foremost i think it would be prudent to 'know' why this person is attacking me, as well as 'how' they are doing so. Yet, even if i did not know why, knowing how should be sufficient.Unfortunately, the 'how' was not presented, and thus i have refrained from participating in this thread until now. Even now, i find only the motivation to 'point out' the error of assumptions based on gender. "When you are able to take the keys from my hand, you will be ready to drive." - Shaolin DMV TestIntro
Highler Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 i would never hit a lady even if she had a weapon (with exception of gun) if she had no weapon i would just pary her punchs i would rather take a couple good hits than hit a lady. if she had a weapon i would take off as fast as my sprinter legs could carry me so unless shes a really good athlete she wont be able to keep up. AMITABHAA female might attack you, but that aint no lady in my bookBurn the witch 'The cat taught the tiger everything he knows. One day the tiger turned on the cat and the cat ran up a tree. orion82698 Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 I could never hit a woman!.... unless she has a beard, a mullet, and wears a flannel shirt with ripped of sleaves...... basically, needs to walk, talk, and act like a man. If I'm getting the crap kicks outta me, I'm going to defend myself. I don't have to be the best, just better than you!Working towards 11% BF and a Six pack

Charlie Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 This actually happened to me but not by a stranger, it was an ex-girlfriend (long story). Anyway, she was fairly strong and was swinging with full force round-house punches that probably would have done some damage if they had landed (she wasn't chubby but she did have some muscle and was almost as tall as I was). This happened before I started studying Karate but I used arm parries that I had learned a long time ago in a TKD class and not a single one of her punches landed. After she started getting tired I was able to grab both her wrists and hold them until she calmed down a little. However, there were finger-shaped bruises left on her wrists from where I was holding on very tightly because she was still trying to punch. I didn't feel guilty about leaving the bruises on her wrists because she was trying her hardest to hurt me and better for her to have bruises on her wrist than damage to a more sensitive part of her body like her trunk or face if I had decided to hit back. She was trying to kick also but I was able to turn my body while holding her arms so that they didn't land either. I guess this might be a good example of how martial arts training can be unexpectedly valuable.
