Goju_boi Posted September 6, 2005 Author Posted September 6, 2005 Of course it's a grappling art, just a very incomplete one.these were very impressive,I din't know how well aikido could do against multiple opponents and with jo staffs. You do know that those are demos, right?well of course theyre demos, but demos let you get a inside look on how the art performs.Or are you saing that aikido isn't any good? https://www.samuraimartialsports.com for your source of Karate,Kobudo,Aikido,And Kung-Fu
NotQuiteDead Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 I could make a demo video of me fighting against 30 people with ak47's but in a fight against more than one person, even if they were unarmed, I'd probably be screwed. Demos don't mean anything. If you want to see how an art is used, watch people who have been training in it spar/grapple/whatever with full resistance.
Goju_boi Posted September 8, 2005 Author Posted September 8, 2005 gotcha https://www.samuraimartialsports.com for your source of Karate,Kobudo,Aikido,And Kung-Fu
Adonis Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 demo's are designed around a compliant partner working with you. So of course some one is going to look good doing the demo. Better off watching them live against some one who is resistaing and trying to fight back and see how well they make there techniques work. That will give you more insight then watching the demo.

Adonis Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 or ask questions of the instructor as how they make that work with the person not as compliant. Have him do it on you just don't be compliant with it. Either frusterates the person doing the technique and show's they don't deal with resistance very well WHich is what you get in the real world. Or they adjust and make something work.
Goju_boi Posted September 10, 2005 Author Posted September 10, 2005 yeah I've noticed some of the people where I train don't work well if I'm actually using force https://www.samuraimartialsports.com for your source of Karate,Kobudo,Aikido,And Kung-Fu
weaponless Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Yes there are ground techniques in aikido....however, the goal in Aikido is not to be on the ground, but there are techniques should you in some way end up there...most are based upon getting back onto your feet though. If you're reaching for the stars, don't be satisfied with touching the ceiling.
Goju_boi Posted October 1, 2005 Author Posted October 1, 2005 are these ground techniques similar to the techniques seen in judo or jiu jitsu? https://www.samuraimartialsports.com for your source of Karate,Kobudo,Aikido,And Kung-Fu
Adonis Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 there are ground techniques. Hey each style has its own stratgey. Thats why styles are in vented, because some one didn't fight like the other person or they have favorite techniques so the instructor taught those. Not every one is built the same or has the same fighting style. If it "WORKS" for you that's all the matters in "crunch" time.
