I'm curious if there is a martial art that offers training based on what the student is capable of, not how long he/she has been at that particular dojo. I mean in TKD it is 2 months per belt color unless you have had a belt an another ATA TKD school, which I have not. So at 2 months a belt it will be about 8 months to a year before I progress far enough in their curriculum to start breaking and sparring, thing is, I can already break and have been sparring for a while. Someone should open up a martial arts gym where people with all different styles can meet up and train together. Hire a few seasoned blackbelts as on call trainers and you've got the most popular place in town.

bjj. They will not promote you until you can keep up with the guys in the belt above you all of the time and beat them and least some of the time. I know of guys who have been white belts for more than two years, and blue belts for three or more.

However, you have a different issue - you want to progress WAY TOO FAST. two months in a belt rank is nothing. Slow down and make sure you perfect what they are trying to teach you. If it that easy for you, you should seek another style.

It sounds like you are looking for a mcschool.

it all depends on the instructor, not the style.

and there are places where people of different styles get together and train together, you just have to be fortunate enough to find those people.

I'm at one - it doesn't sound like what he's looking for though. Where I train and teach, there are many different styles taught, all by different teachers - capoeira, kenpo, bjj, judo, thai boxing, wrestling, kali and aikido. We don't mind if people who train one of the other styles comes to our classes, but it sounds like cole is looking for something else.

He wants to be shown something that his teacher apparently doesn't think he's ready for yet.
