Id say avoid it at all cost, but i agree with Kaju that if i needed to defend a loved one, or someone who couldnt defend themself. Then i think itd be my duty to protect them as well as myself. But other then that ill make my best attempt to avoid all confrontation

and why does walking away equate to losing self-respect? I can deal with not being able to win every fight.....

i dont think it does at all, i think it shows a level of maturity that very few people in this world posses

it shows which people would rather get beat up rather than accept that they cant win.....

I say, if its not important, walk away....

I think there are way too many factors to decide if it was a good or bad idea, since we don't know them all.

With that said- here's my suggestion, since no one else has had the idea.

Get the kids gloves, at 10 years old i suppose 10oz will do, and let them duke it out! Maybe even have them wear mouth pieces if you have the time to get them. After that they might even become friends.

yeah, get the kid gloves.... what would that serve?

better explain a kid why it is wrong to fight over name-calling. he could get jumped while walking form school or something as he grows up, or become a bully...

I agree that it is more important to instill the morals to walk away, than to teach to be prepared to really do something dangerous in a situation.

As to why; violence is dangerous, and should not be taken lightly.

If a child grows up thinking its the 'norm' to fist fight, and walks into a club in the red-light part of town someday with an aggressive attitude.........

well, I dont want to paint the rest of that picture.
