tsdtony Posted June 26, 2005 Posted June 26, 2005 thats fynny i know one of my gm 8th degree. Also hold a 7th dagree in kajukenbo emperado method and i was told ther is a difrence between kenpo and kempo so you might want to look into that.Just because ther based of the same thang does not mean thear the same art.But i have seen quit a few kenpo schools and thay do you joint locks and troughs and thay do teach ground defince and counter holds at least the schools i have seen
Sam Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 ok then ill have a look into it... but i still think its just a translation difference.
Kajukenbopr Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 kenpo does have a lot of groundfight, but it is not the same as BJJ. kenpo will hit and get away while BJJ will try go hold on to the attacker.....Kenpo, taken to what it should be,will devastate any attacker. Sad to hear your school trains poorly, EndlessDave, I know with your Kenpo skills you could achieve so much more..... <> Be humble, train hard, fight dirty
UseoForce Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 In hapkido, we have a lot of techniques where we enter (usually with striking), throw the attacker, then apply lock (or break) while the attacker is on the ground. Usually the defender remains standing. Is that comparable to the sort of grappling you seein kenpo (or kempo)? If it works, use it!If not, throw it out!
y2_sub Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 I have never been in a kempo dojo myself , but from what i have heard and read , kempo is designed for self defense and stresses hand techniques , kempo = kenpo . Anyway , kickboxing is initially a martial sport designed for karate-ka who want to fight in a full contact environment "Full contact karate" , kickboxers are fast , powerful , and they know how to effectively use there forearms , kickboxing requires lot of conditioning and kickboxing matches seems to be hard , sometimes brutal if you add low kicks to the mix... I had a black belt in kickboxing myself (stopped doing kickboxing 2 years ago ) and believe me , you do not want to mess with a good kick boxer on the street , his attacks can prove to be devastating .. since both kickboxing and kempo are great , it would be nice to see a kick boxer vs. a kempo guy in k-1 . Moon might shine upon the innocent and the guilty alike
Kajukenbopr Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 a kickboxer trains by rules and ,if traditional, somewhat like Karate.however, Kenpo can train to be full of hits most kickboxers would call illegal or dishonorable.A series of hits(which might not seem too hard by themselves) can make a Kenpo practitioner a dreaded opponent.Have anyone seen " The perfect weapon" ? the guy fighting in that movie practices Kenpo and displays it very well. <> Be humble, train hard, fight dirty
Kajukenbopr Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 I'm not saying kickboxing is bad, far from it, but Kenpo is more street oriented. <> Be humble, train hard, fight dirty
parkerlineage Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Have anyone seen " The perfect weapon" ?No, I haven't, but now I'm going to...thanks. Parkerlineage American Kenpo Karate- First Degree Black Belt"He who hesitates, meditates in a horizontal position."Ed Parker
tsdtony Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Yes I have seen the perfect wepion.Jeff speakmen is and amzing martial artis .But he is a product of ed parker american kenpo.American kenpo is in my opiounon much difrent than tradisona lkenpo.Dont get me rong bout very devistating but ed parker kenpo seem to foucs on manly hands to were kajikenbo and and tradisonal kenpo tend to use the whole body.American kenpo also uses the whole body but from what i have seen and i have not seen that much ed parker kenpo stres hand speed and strikes.to were kaji is more stres on proper macniqes and power
Muaythaiboxer Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 im personaly think that a kickboxer would win semply because of the conditioning and power plus from what i have see kempo people practice light contact. Fist visible Strike invisible
