SyracuseJundokan
It matters and it doesn't matter... If you're happy with your training, it doesn't matter to you. In my post I was curious to see people out there that are practicing the original way, so in the context of this thread it matters... I guess it also matters when someone uses lineage to promote their practice, but then doesn't follow the teachings of that lineage... https://www.SyracuseJundokan.comAuthentic & Traditional Goju-ryuWKF Competition TrainingJundokan Honbu: https://www.jundokan.jp(While you're reading this, your next opponent is sweating in the dojo!) UsagiYojimbo
Does it all really matter? So what if a goju guy doesn't belong to a certain organization and has incorporated other things into their curriculum? Maybe he just doesn't want to pay their dues.I know my lineage, but I also know my adaptations.Sorry to give the wrong impression; I wasn't stating that the school was poor because it had no organizational affiliation. The poster was asking about schools in our area, and I was simply stating that this school didn't have an affiliation. I felt the school was poor based on the weak techniques of the more advanced students and what I felt to be sub-par instruction. Hope that clarifies. Pralgo
Funny that Goju Kai isn't being considered GOJU-RYU.Just like any of the Okinawan or Japanese schools of GOJU, there will be some slight differnences. You can see differences when comnparing Jundokan, IOGKF, Meibukan, etc. Each of Chojun Miyagi's students came away with something a little different.Although I may be GOJU-KAI, I've been solicited to join Okinawan GOJU organizations more than once. The main difference I see with GOJU-KAI, is that the style is molded to the student, as opposed to the student having to adapt to the style. I find this as a plus in GOJU-KAI. This way one person with a particular extreme body type (tall, short, stocky) can adapt well. Brian PralgoJapanese GOJU-RYU
