JusticeZero
Don't know that BJJ combines with Capoeira particularly well, but at least they use different ranges. BJJ is an art of Japanese origin and Capoeira is of African origin and at no point in their construction that I am aware of were they mixed. But on the bright side, BJJ is something you switch to in a scenario where you don't have so much to clash with.Tips for doing kicks? Ummm.. do them? Not sure what you're having trouble with or what art you're doing. "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly." - Baleia

I thought there is some debate about whether capoeira was brought with the african slaves to south america, or whether they created it once they arrived?Aodhan There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.-Douglas Everett, American hockey player
Maddwraph
How does the combo of capoeira and BJJ work? I've always thought that'd be cool. i did capoeira for a year and am taking a break, but the way i was thinking is using the long distance capoiera kicks i learned in class, then if they get really close, or somehow bring me to the ground, BJJ would help me . now, capoiera has a lot of different grapples and kicks, but in my school it takes a while to learn the more complex ones, becuase i was told as begginers, we need to know how to do the basic kick, and how to protect ourselfves effeictively until we can learn more the combatitive stuff. because of this, i personally felt capoiera takes a while to be effective in a fight, but still can be. it will get you into a great shape. but yeaj, the combinations can work.now, for the crecsent kicks, im not sure which one your talking about. Im brasilian, but live in the united states. Really enjoying martial arts.
fallen_milkman
In August, a capoeira teacher is coming to run a month-long school in my town. Monday-Friday classes. I will definitely be attending. Not sure how much it will add to my kuntao, but the musical knowledge I'll gain will definitely be cool. 36 styles of danger
Goju_boi
back to the chubby subject,I don't know if it helps but I can do handstands and cart wheels.Again I don't know if that helps to tell where I'm at https://www.samuraimartialsports.com for your source of Karate,Kobudo,Aikido,And Kung-Fu
JusticeZero
Well, the fact that you "can do cartwheels" might be a slight hindrance, because that means that you have to start by forgetting how to do a cartwheel. Capoeira doesn't use cartwheels. They use au. They look very similar, but are NOT the same.Just try it. Make a commitment to stick it out for at least two months of not skipping class for "fun stuff".To Aodhan: There is debate over precisely what the exact origin is, but there is zero doubt that it is African MA at it's core. It follows the structure and resembles a number of AMA, even if noone has located a specific undeniable root in Africa. If a lot of Chinese MAists were transplanted to Antarctica and devised a martial art, then later it was unclear exactly what lineage it came from, but it contained lots of bow stance, snake creeps down, clearly identifiable jings, eight trigram theory, and forms more than slightly reminiscent of existing chinese MA, I wouldn't hesitate to say that that art has roots in chinese MA. elbows_and_knees
Uhm... I thought there is some debate about whether capoeira was brought with the african slaves to south america, or whether they created it once they arrived?AodhanOne of the teachers I train with is actually brazilian. The other has relatives there and visits at least once a year. They both say that it was brought over, not developed after they arrived.
