Aodhan Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Hi,I'm currently looking to start a new martial art, and think that Capoeira would be very interesting. Could someone put me onto anybody that could help me?Thanks,ElliotI'd do a google search to see if there are any maestro's in your area. However, I would suggest possibly waiting until you have achieved a dan ranking in your current style. It can be confusing to try to do two very different styles as a beginner.Aodhan There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.-Douglas Everett, American hockey player
battousai16 Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 yeah, i don't know if your signature is out of date now, but capoeira is fundamentally different from everything i've studied before, and has gotten a bit confusing at times. that said, it was more confusing for capoeira than it was for hwa rang do. the trouble came when all of the sudden i went back to hwa rang do and the little changes, like foot positioning and a lot of my arcs and the like, changed drastically. for example, the worst being hwa rang do's high spin, which is a kick with your foot parallel to the ground. by the time i got the armada underway in capoeira, which has your foot perpendicular to the ground, my high spin was ruined, as that's an important detail in hwa rang do. just a word of warning: make sure you're comfortable before you move on. if you do decide to play capoeira, however, i'll be you'll like it, as it's a blast. bangkaliliang Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 capoeira's kicks r very nice, very difficult, how to train until that ability? JusticeZero Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 Which ones are difficult? The ones I know are pretty easy - though you can't really do them well as part of another martial art. Basic principles of how to move make all but a tiny number of extremely esoteric and nonstandard asian MA stylists pulling their hair out with the contrariness and differences. battousai16 Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 psh, don't even get me started on the kicks, i'm still trying to get comfortable in the ground movement... and trying to esquiva instead of blocking... some day. Goju_boi Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 is it possible for a chubby dude like me to do capoeira? https://www.samuraimartialsports.com for your source of Karate,Kobudo,Aikido,And Kung-Fu
JusticeZero Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 I manage. My body type does NOT look like the stereotype. Of course, I don't know what school you are looking to go into either. Some teachers or arts might not work well with extra weight. An angola school might be easier. "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly." - Baleia
elbows_and_knees Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 I've seen big guys do regional. I am a big guy myself, and I have been training it for about a month now.
