im looking for a very hard martial

Kyokushin. It's a very hard martial art. You'll learn self-defense, kata and do kumite and be able to participate in tournaments.

I agree but muay thai i think would also be a good choice

if you suggest that he becomes profficient in one style ,then why are you insisting he take muay thai as a second style?

i suggest that he take one stlye for a while and become effecent in it, then take muay thai...........

He could just as easily become proficient in muay thai and then train in another art.
