UseoForce Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Please, someone tell me everthing they know about the striking that supposedly used to exist in Judo before it was "sportified." If it works, use it!If not, throw it out!
goshinman Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Well basically it's called Atemi Waza. It basically focuses on striking the most vital points on the body with palm strikes, thrusts, tiger claws and hammerfists. It's all very basic striking to areas such as the throat, eyes, testicals, instep, solar plexus, shins, and the like. Mostly it is done to set up throws or controlling joint locks found in judo kata. Tapped out, knocked out, or choked out...Take your pick.http://jujitsu4u.com/http://www.combatwrestling.com/http://gokor.com/
TJS Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Read Kodokan Judo by Jigoro Kano...it's in there with pictures and illustrations.
UseoForce Posted June 17, 2005 Author Posted June 17, 2005 Comparable to JJJ striking, or did Kano have a different take on the striking? If it works, use it!If not, throw it out!
goshinman Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 Yes but not as extensive. Kano "trimmed the fat" so to speak. Tapped out, knocked out, or choked out...Take your pick.http://jujitsu4u.com/http://www.combatwrestling.com/http://gokor.com/
GhostlySykanRyu Posted June 18, 2005 Posted June 18, 2005 I would guess today that different Judoka have different opinions on whether Atemi Waza belong in the art any longer or not (similar to what hapenned with Aikido, but for different reasons). So yes, it didn't "supposedly" exist. It existed To condemn the art of another is to condemn your own as well. We all have the same origin.
